English First Makassar Director Visits BSI to Share Career Opportunities

Makassar, July 11, 2025 — The English Language and Literature Department (BSI), Faculty of Adab and Humanities, UIN Alauddin Makassar, welcomed Retno Ummu Kalsum, Center Director at EF English First Makassar, for an inspiring sharing session on career opportunities in the English education industry.

Retno, a proud alumna of BSI, was warmly received by the Head of the English Language and Literature Department, Dr. Rosma Tami, S.Ag., M.Sc., M.A. Her visit was both a homecoming and a professional engagement that offered valuable insights to current students and fresh graduates.

In her session, Retno shared her professional journey and encouraged students to prepare for a wide range of roles in the education sector. She introduced the recruitment process at EF English First, with a focus on the English 1, and provided practical advice on the qualifications, soft skills, and mindset needed to succeed.

Beyond teaching, Retno emphasized the importance of being open to various opportunities in the education business. She highlighted that the industry offers much more than classroom instruction, including promising roles in marketing, management, and curriculum development.

“This field is growing and full of potential. Being open to different paths can lead you to places you never expected,” she said.

The event is part of BSI’s ongoing initiative to connect students with professionals in the field and to help them explore potential career paths after graduation. The session concluded with an active Q&A, where students asked about job readiness, career growth, and the dynamic work environment.
