Wednesday, 3 January 2024. A talk show entitled "Challenges and Expectations of Literacy for Persons with Disabilities" was held at one of the well-known cafes in Makassar City. The event, organized by the Global Inclusion Institute, a self-development institution committed to creating an inclusive situation for all kinds of disabilities, managed to attract the attention of the wider community.

The event, which was attended by a number of Community Leaders, Activists, and the General Public, brought together four speakers from different backgrounds. One of them was Lecturer of English Language and Literature at Adab and Humanities Faculty of UIN Alauddin Makassar Ahmad, M. Litt. With extensive experience in his field, Ahmad made valuable contributions regarding the challenges and expectations of literacy for those living with Disabilities.

In his interaction with the talk show participants, Ahmad highlighted the importance of accessibility to Literature and Education materials for people with Disabilities. "Literacy is not just about reading and writing. It is a fundamental right of every individual, regardless of their background or physical condition." He said.

He also emphasized the need for active roles from various parties, including the government, educational institutions, and the general public, in creating a supportive environment for people with Disabilities. "We need to jointly create an inclusive space, where they can access literacy resources easily and feel supported." He added.

In addition, Ahmad's presence as a resource person also provided insights on how to overcome the barriers often faced by people with Disabilities in terms of literacy, as well as exploring the potential of these individuals.

This inspiring talk show succeeded in bringing together various perspectives and providing a broader understanding of the importance of literacy for people with Disabilities. Hopefully, from this kind of event, real steps will be taken to create a more inclusive environment for all levels of society, without exception.

With contributions from speakers like Ahmad, M. Litt, the hope to improve literacy and inclusion for people with disabilities becomes more real and can be realized together.
