Gathering in an international seminar always brings a deep reflection of the life. Such a great and beneficial assemble, this meeting may bring an individual to a longevity in term that it contribute valuable meaning to mankind. The theme of the seminar is Artificial Intelligence challenging Humanities Studies. Amidst participant excitement, the Rector of UIN Aladdin, who always has a vision beyond, challenges the committee of the seminar to address not only humanities studies but also humanities themselves. The initiation seminar began with a small chat in a small room decorated with unique sofas in the Adab and Humanity of Faculty. The small room was named the Rumah Jurnal when the master was still at home in his house.
The Adab and Humanity of Faculty has a humble study center called aRCiBi. On January 15, 2024. It had the opportunity to hold an international event as an effort to seek way out many problems troubling many human beings. aRCiBi is a meditative space for someone who does not only think about himself, but his vibrations have reached far beyond the walls and even the fence of UIN. aRCiBi was initiated by Dr. Barsihannor, M.Ag, Dean of Adab and Humanity faculty, and coordinated by Dr. Nasrum Marjuni. MA, Lecturer in English literature at FAH. Both of them love to sing beautiful rhythms to make people smile.
aRCiBi dreamed of an international conference held every year. The conference was named Inches. Inches is a nickname for a beautiful little Princess who is the embodiment and hope that one day she will forever be a true Princess. The Princess was initiated by several mothers who had young daughters. They must have seen Inches as they saw their own daughters; growing up, beautiful, charming, and multiplying.
As parents looking at the future generation, the concern was for AI. Inches is the one who is expected to help. Who should change in this challenge? Untie the knot with technology? Or change their minds? It all starts with skepticism about the emergence of AI.
Dr. Julie McCown from the University of Southern Utah USA was one of the invited presenters to share her thoughtful experience in educating her students in the face of AI. Julie is a professor of English Language and Literature. She seemed qualified to explain her experience in taming her mind and then taming AI. She said, there is no point in being negative towards AI, make it your friend to make your work easier, reduce your mental fatigue which might lead to mental health problems. However, humans must be wise, AI must work with us, not work for us. This means that our humanity will not be eroded by AI, but we maintain our humanity by not losing too much time for work because we are too tired and to busy to work.
Husnul Insani Johar is a presenter from UIN Jakarta. She is a strong Minang woman who inherited many special things from her predecessors in Minangkabau. In the seminar, she told a story called Alief Yeoum, the Unseen. The story was written by an American woman who became a Muslim, Willow Wilson. It tells of the ways in which a Muslim warrior uses his unseen power to resist the many pressures faced by the Islamic community. This story is a clear example of the use of AI in Muslim societies.
These two speakers directly answered aRCiBi's doubts and worries about the future of the nation's children, and the answer is that there is nothing to worry because AI is a modern genie that can turn humans into superhuman.
