Makassar, 7 Oktober 2025 — Lecturers and students from the English Language and Literature Study Program (BSI), Faculty of Adab and Humanities, UIN Alauddin Makassar, once again demonstrated their presence on the international academic stage by actively participating in The 13th ELITE International Conference on English Language Teaching, Linguistics, and Literature (ELITE ICON). The conference was held on October 6–7, 2025, at UIN Maulana Malik Ibrahim Malang and took place in a hybrid format, drawing participants from around the world.
ELITE ICON 2025 brought together hundreds of lecturers, teachers, and researchers in the fields of English education and linguistics, both from Indonesia and abroad. From UIN Alauddin Makassar’s BSI Program, lecturers and students attended virtually and played key roles as presenters.
One of the student contributors was Wafiq Azizah (BSI student, class of 2021), who presented a paper titled “Artificial Intelligence-Assisted News Writing: Perceptions and Practices of English and Literature Students in an EFL Context.”The research was co-authored with her supervisors, Dr. Sardian Maharani Asnur and Dr. Muh Taufik, M.Hum.
Several BSI lecturers also showcased their research at the event. Dr. Jumharia Djamereng presented her study titled “Designing Digital English Classrooms through Sociolinguistics to Promote Intercultural Competence and Global Citizenship.”
Meanwhile, Dr. Sardian Maharani Asnur, together with Helmy Syukur, M.Pd. and Dr. Mukarramah Nagauleng, M.Pd. (IAIN Manado), presented a paper entitled “E-Reading Platforms for Inclusive English Learning: A Content Analysis of Free Digital Libraries.”
For students, participating in an international academic forum like this provided a valuable opportunity to enhance their skills in academic writing, critical thinking, and public speaking at a global level. For lecturers, it served as a platform to expand insights and stay informed about the latest trends in linguistics and English education research.
Moreover, the papers presented at the conference will be published in international proceedings and accredited Sinta journals, opening significant opportunities for cross-university and cross-national research collaborations.
The participation of BSI lecturers and students from UIN Alauddin Makassar in ELITE ICON 2025 not only enriched their academic experience but also strengthened the program’s international reputation. Their active involvement stands as a testament to BSI’s commitment to academic excellence, global competitiveness, and continuous growth in higher education.
