Gowa, August 26, 2026 — The English Language
and Literature Department warmly welcomed 90 new students during an
introductory gathering held at the department on Friday, 4 September 2026. The
event brought together the Head of the Department, the Secretary, lecturers,
senior students, and members of the English Language and Literature Student
Association (HMJ) in a friendly and encouraging atmosphere.
The Head of the English Language and Literature
Department, Dr. Rosmah Tami, accompanied by the Department Secretary, Sandra
Dewi Dahlan, S.S., M.A., welcomed the new students and introduced them to the
academic environment they will experience throughout their university years.
Lecturers also took the opportunity to greet the students and share words of
encouragement as they begin a new chapter in their academic journey.
One of the main messages delivered during the
gathering was that students should be proud of being part of the English
Language and Literature Department. The lecturers encouraged them to see
English not simply as a subject to be studied, but as a valuable competence
that can open doors to wider academic, professional, and international
opportunities.
Students were also introduced to the importance of
developing competencies in both language and literature. Strong English
proficiency, critical thinking, communication skills, and literary and cultural
knowledge can provide a solid foundation for their future. The lecturers
highlighted that these competencies can support students in pursuing
scholarships, student exchange programs, and further study opportunities at
universities in Indonesia and abroad.
The welcoming program was also supported by the English
Language and Literature Student Association (HMJ), whose members assisted and
guided the new students during the activity. Their involvement helped create a
closer connection between new and senior students while introducing the
newcomers to student life within the department.
More than a formal introduction, the gathering marked
the beginning of a new academic journey for the 90 students. Through the warm
welcome from lecturers and senior students, they were encouraged to grow with
confidence, take advantage of every learning opportunity, and make their years
in the English Language and Literature Department a meaningful part of their
future.
