Makassar, July 15, 2026 — Students of the English and Literature Department, Faculty of Adab and Humanities, UIN Alauddin Makassar, collaborated with students from the English Literature Department of Universitas Fajar to present The Low-Man Dreams as one of the main performances at Enlite Fest 2026.
The drama was staged at D’Edelweiss Ballroom, Universitas Fajar, Makassar, as part of the festival’s Drama and Poetry Performance. The performance brought together literary appreciation, English language practice, and performing arts, providing students with an opportunity to transform a literary work into an engaging stage performance.
The Low-Man Dreams adapts the story of Willy Loman, a salesman who struggles to maintain his dreams amid economic pressures, family expectations, and the realities of life. Through the character’s struggles and conflicts, the drama explores themes of success, family relationships, disappointment, and human values.
For the students, the performance also served as a learning experience that allowed them to apply knowledge gained through their academic studies, particularly in literature, linguistics, and performing arts. The use of English dialogue, character development, vocal performance, and artistic expression contributed to the overall quality of the production.
The preparation involved intensive rehearsals, including script reading, character development, vocal training, and exploration of facial expressions and body language. These activities helped the students strengthen their performance skills while developing collaboration and communication across institutions.
Through The Low-Man Dreams, Enlite Fest 2026 demonstrated how literary works can serve not only as artistic performances but also as meaningful learning media. The story of Willy Loman invites audiences to reflect on the meaning of success and the importance of honesty, sincerity, and relationships with others.
The performance received appreciation from lecturers, students, and invited guests. The collaboration also highlighted the potential of student-centered activities to strengthen literary appreciation, creativity, and institutional collaboration between UIN Alauddin Makassar and Universitas Fajar.
