English Meeting Club (EMC) is a weekly program initiated by the English Literature Student Association (HIMABSI) 2025–2026. Unlike an organization or community, EMC is simply one of the student association’s work programs designed to provide a casual yet structured space for practicing English speaking skills.

The program takes place once a week in the afternoon, bringing together English Literature students and sometimes even students from other majors who want to improve their English in a fun and friendly way. Participants are divided into small groups based on their level (Beginner or Intermediate), making the discussions more comfortable and suitable for everyone.

Each session comes with a specific theme, along with discussion questions to guide the conversation. Rather than feeling like a formal class, EMC is designed to feel like casual chats with friends. Students can share stories, exchange ideas, and get to know each other better while practicing English. The presence of engaging moderators also makes the atmosphere even more enjoyable.

The discussion topics vary from simple everyday themes such as Daily Activity, Holiday, Dream, or Hobby, to more engaging ones like Film and Books, Childhood, or even modern issues like Artificial Intelligence (AI). For every topic, each level is provided with a list of guiding questions that participants must answer. The questions are designed to be easy to respond to yet open enough for longer answers, encouraging students to speak as much as possible in English.

Since the arrival of the 2025 freshmen, EMC has added a new element: a vocabulary sheet distributed at the end of every meeting. Students who take the sheet are encouraged to memorize the words, which are selected from commonly used English vocabulary. This addition helps participants not only practice speaking but also steadily build their vocabulary week by week.

Although flexible in concept, EMC currently focuses on speaking practice, as it is the most enjoyable and in-demand activity among participants. In the future, EMC is expected to grow into a space where more initiatives and efforts to improve English proficiency among English Literature students can take place.
