Gowa, October 6, 2025. The
Department of English and Literature, Faculty of Adab and Humanities, Alauddin
State Islamic University of Makassar, held an international seminar “From Local to Global: Launching Your
International Career” on Monday, October 6, 2025, at 13.30 WITA. The event
took place in the Lecture Theater of the Faculty of Adab and Humanities and was
attended by lecturers and students from various cohorts of the English and
Literature Department.
The seminar presented three
speakers who shared valuable insights from their professional experiences.
Maikara Tamihana, the Manager of Human Resources for the Northern Region of
Thomas Food International, spoke about the importance of global career readiness
and cross cultural adaptability. He was accompanied by two alumni of the
Department of English and Literature, Riswandi and Rahmiyana Rauf, who are
currently working with Thomas Food International. Riswandi, owning a
Sponsorship Skill Visa, and Rahmiyana Rauf, working under the Working
Holiday Process Visa program, provided firsthand perspectives on international
employment opportunities.
Throughout the discussion, the
speakers introduced two major pathways for those who aspire to work overseas,
namely the Working Holiday Visa and the Skill Visa. They elaborated on the
definitions, requirements, and procedures for obtaining both types of visas.
The speakers also emphasized the promising job opportunities and work
environments available in Australia, explaining that many companies are open to
hiring workers regardless of nationality. They further noted that most
employers offer a one month training program to prepare new employees before
starting their professional duties.
Practical preparation for working
in Australia was another highlight of the seminar. The speakers advised
students to achieve a minimum IELTS score of five and to complete all necessary
visa documents before applying for positions abroad.
The participants showed great
enthusiasm throughout the session. Many students admitted that the topic
resonated with their personal aspirations to work overseas, especially in
Australia. The seminar successfully inspired them to take concrete steps toward
realizing their international career ambitions.
Through this event, the
Department of English and Literature reaffirmed its dedication to nurturing
globally minded graduates who are equipped to compete in the international job
market.
