May 5, 2025 – The Student Association of the Department of English Language and Literature, Faculty of Adab and Humanities, UIN Alauddin Makassar, successfully held a Linguistics Seminar titled “Rethinking English: Assumed Opportunities and Local Challenges in the Digital Era.” The seminar was held in conjunction with the 26th anniversary celebration of the department.
The event took place at the Auditorium of Alauddin Islamic State University and was opened with the traditional Paddupa dance performed by the Komunitas Seni Adab (KISSA), adding a ceremonial and cultural touch to the occasion. The seminar was officially opened by the Dean of the Faculty of Adab and Humanities, Prof. Dr. Barsihannor, M.Ag, followed by a speech from the Head of the Department of English Language and Literature, Dr. Rosmah Tami, M.Hum.
Two distinguished speakers shared their insights:

Dr. Faidah Yusuf, S.S., M.Pd, a lecturer at PGSD FIP – UNM and a researcher in English education, and

Zulfikarni Bakri, S.Hum., M.A., an English educator and graduate in Religion and Intercultural Studies (UGM).
The seminar addressed both the opportunities and challenges in English language education within the digital era, with a special focus on local contexts and intercultural approaches.
As a symbol of gratitude and togetherness, the event also featured a ceremonial tumpeng cutting to commemorate the 26th anniversary of the Department of English Language and Literature—marking over two decades of academic contributions, innovation, and cultural engagement.
The event was met with great enthusiasm from students, lecturers, and invited guests, and served as a moment of collective reflection on the strategic role of language and literature in responding to global and local challenges in the digital age.
