BSI Lecturers Participate in the Scientific Writing Workshop “Transforming Research Methodology: Integrating AI into Qualitative and Quantitative Approaches”

Gowa, November 19, 2025, A Scientific Writing Workshop with the theme “Transforming Research Methodology: Integrating AI into Qualitative and Quantitative Approaches” was held on 18–19 November 2025 at Sultan Alauddin Hotel & Convention Makassar. The workshop was attended by two lecturers from the English Language and Literature Department (BSI), namely Dr. Purnama Cahya, M.Pd. and Muhammad Naufal Mahdi, S.Hum., M.Hum. The event was organized by the Center for Research and Publication (LP2M) as part of its efforts to improve research quality and strengthen the research skills of both lecturers and students.

Day One – Tuesday, 18 November 2025

The workshop began at 08.00 with participant registration, followed by an official opening through a prayer led by the MC and committee. The Chair of LP2M, Dr. Hj. Rosmini Amin, S.Ag., M.Th.I., delivered the opening remarks, followed by a speech from the Rector of UIN Alauddin Makassar, who officially inaugurated the event.

After the coffee break, the program continued with Session I: Quantitative Approaches in Scientific Research, delivered by Prof. Dr. Stang, Drs., M.Kes. The session covered fundamental concepts of quantitative research, measurement techniques, and the stages of developing research instruments. An active question-and-answer session followed, with participants raising technical inquiries regarding variable design and statistical analysis.

The event proceeded with a second coffee break and a pause for the Dzuhur prayer. At 13.00, participants attended Session II: Case Studies and Data Processing Practice, also guided by Prof. Dr. Stang. Participants were given sample datasets and learned step-by-step methods for processing quantitative data. The first day concluded with a reflection session led by the moderator.

Day Two – Wednesday, 19 November 2025

The second day began with registration at 08.00, followed by Session I: Qualitative Approaches in Scientific Research, delivered by Drs. Wahyuddin Halim, M.A. The material covered interview techniques, observation, qualitative data analysis, and the steps involved in writing research reports. After a coffee break, the session continued with discussions and a Q&A session until 12.00.

Following lunch and the Dzuhur prayer, the workshop moved to Session II: AI for Data-Driven Discovery: From Data Collection to Insight Generation, presented by Sofyan Tandungan, S.T., M.T. This session provided insights into the use of artificial intelligence for processing and analyzing research data. Participants were introduced to AI applications for data classification, prediction, and generating research insights. The moderator then facilitated a discussion on the opportunities and challenges of integrating AI into academic research.

The second day concluded at 15.30 with a closing prayer and words of appreciation from the MC and organizing committee. The event ran smoothly, and the participants engaged actively throughout the entire program.
