BSI Learning Centre, in collaboration with the Department of English Language and Literature and the English Language and Literature Student Association, successfully held a three-day public speaking training program titled "Speak Up! Overcoming Public Speaking Anxiety Bootcamp." This event, held from February 5 to 7, 2025, aimed to equip students with the skills and confidence needed for academic presentations, including seminar proposals, research presentations, and thesis defenses.
The bootcamp took place over three days from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM WITA and was facilitated by Ms. Waode Surya Darmadali, S.S., M.Hum, a lecturer from the Department of English Language and Literature and the founder of BSI Learning Centre. Assisting her as co-facilitators were three talented students: Arbi Irwansa, Aryani Najwah Santika, and Ikhsan Irsadi. Additionally, first-year students Dewi Qadria Kwandou and Sry Wahyuni participated as volunteers to support the smooth execution of the program.
Ten students took part in the bootcamp, engaging in a structured learning experience designed to improve their public speaking skills. The training was divided into three main phases:
- Day 1: Pre-test and introduction to the bootcamp activities.
- Day 2: Intensive public speaking training, where Aryani discussed visual aspects, Ikhsan explained word articulation, and Arbi conducted a session on PowerPoint design techniques.
- Day 3: Final presentations, where participants showcased their best presentations by applying the skills they had learned.
Each session was also accompanied by engaging ice-breaking activities, creating a relaxed and interactive learning atmosphere.
The impact of this bootcamp was highly positive, as reflected in both assessment results and direct testimonials from participants. Students reported a significant increase in confidence and notable improvements in their presentation techniques. The training successfully helped them overcome public speaking anxiety and refine their presentation skills for future academic needs.
BSI Learning Centre extends its gratitude to all facilitators, co-facilitators, volunteers, and participants who contributed to the success of this event. This initiative marks an important step in preparing students to face academic and professional challenges, enabling them to convey their ideas more effectively and confidently.
