Makassar, November 12, 2025 — One of the most engaging highlights of the 6th International Conference on Linguistics and Cultural Studies (ICLC-6), organized by the Faculty of Cultural Sciences at Hasanuddin University, was a presentation by Dr. Nahdhiyah, S.S., M.Pd., a lecturer from the Department of English Language and Literature, Faculty of Adab and Humanities, UIN Alauddin Makassar. In a parallel session, she presented a paper titled “Women as Guardians of Nature: An Ecofeminist Reading of The Overstory.”

Through her research, Dr. Nahdhiyah revealed how women possess great potential as protectors of nature and play a vital role as agents of environmental advocacy and conservation. She emphasized that, by their very nature as creations of God, women have an inherent capacity to nurture and preserve the environment. The ecofeminist approach she adopted highlights the close relationship between women and nature, and how both face similar pressures from patriarchal social systems.

This year’s international conference carried the theme “Multidisciplinary Perspectives on Language, Literature, Culture, and Teaching: Challenges and Innovations.” The event was held in a hybrid format—both online and on-site—at the Prof. Mattulada Hall, Faculty of Cultural Sciences, Hasanuddin University, on Wednesday, November 12, 2025.

The conference featured keynote speakers from several renowned universities worldwide, including the University of Malaya (Malaysia), Walailak University (Thailand), Nanchang University (China), and the University of Tsukuba (Japan). From Indonesia, keynote speakers included scholars from the University of Mataram, Diponegoro University, Indonesia University of Education, and Hasanuddin University as the main host of the event.

The conference was officially opened by Prof. Drg. Muhammad Ruslin, M.Kes., Ph.D., Sp.BM(K), Vice Rector for Academic and Student Affairs at Hasanuddin University. In his opening remarks, he emphasized the importance of interdisciplinary collaboration. “Events like this bridge various fields of knowledge so that we can view societal issues more holistically. Science should not stop at theory—it must also be applied to approximate and address real-world problems,” he stated.

ICLC-6 was also attended by presenters from across Indonesia, including researchers from the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN). The participation of individuals from diverse backgrounds reinforced the spirit of multidisciplinary that lies at the heart of this conference.
