A Student of English and Literature Department Participated Y20 Post-Summit, An Official Engagement Program of G20 2022

The Group of Twenty (G20) Summit for the first time involved Indonesia as the host since its establishment in 1999, it’s an international forum focusing on policy coordination in economics and development. It represents the world’s economic and political power, with its member representing 80% of the world’s GDP, 75% of global exports, and 60% of the global population, The G20 consists of 19 countries and the European Union. The theme carried by the G20 this year is "Recovering Together, Recovering Stronger".

Muhammad al-Anhar al-Islami, a student of English and Literature Department, Faculty of Adab and Humanities, UIN Alauddin Makassar, had the opportunity as a Guest Participant in the Suara Pemuda of Youth Twenty (Y20) Post Summit which was held by Indonesian Youth Diplomacy in Solo to coincide with the day of Sumpah Pemuda on October 28, 2022. This is one of the official engagement programs of the Group of Twenty (G20) Summit which focuses on discussing 4 priority issues, namely Digital Transformation, Youth Employment, Diversity and Inclusion, and Sustainable and Livable Planet.

After following some steps of idea submission processes and selecting the priority issue of Sustainable and Livable Planet by raising the basic problem in the clause Centering on Nature-Based Solutions and Indigenous Peoples' and Local Communities (IPLCs) Stewardship, Anhar reflects on the problems experienced by farmers especially in the field of corn production in his relatable area of origin, Bima Regency, West Nusa Tenggara Province. He was then selected to be one of the 200 participants who passed the online pitching stage on Saturday, October 8, 2022. The results of online pitching resulted in collaboration with several other young people with similar issues related.

Post-Summit Y20 invited several High-Level Panelists in each priority area, including Surakarta Mayor Gibran Rakabuming Raka and Yono Reksoprodjo as Vice President of Corporate Affairs Sintesa Group for Youth Employment issues, Deputy Governor of East Java Emil Elestianto Dardak and Bima Arya Sugiarto as Mayor of Bogor for Sustainable and Livable Planet issues, Devie Rahmawati as Communication and Mass Media Expert of the Ministry of Communication and Information (MENKOMINFO) and Riel Tasmaya as CEO of Indozone for Digital Transformation issues, and Ir. Martini Mohamad Paham, MBA as Deputy Minister for Resources and Institutions of the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy (KEMENPAREKRAF), and Nadya Saib as CEO of Wangsa Jelita for Diversity and Inclusion issues.

This activity was also tied with a Welcome Dinner and Leadership Talk Show with the theme "Enhancing the Role of Young Leaders" presenting Ridwan Kamil the Governor of West Java, Ganjar Pranowo as the Governor of Central Java, and Gibran Rakabuming Raka as the Mayor of Surakarta. The activity which was held at Pura Mangkunegaran was officially opened by Sri Paduka Mangkunegoro X and was attended by hundreds of participants and invited guests as representatives of youth throughout Indonesia.

This activity is expected to be a bridge of ideas and communication for young people with various policymakers to be able to collaborate in realizing the ideals of Indonesia Gold 2045 with a mission to face global challenges with a local wisdom approach. "Very proud to be a part of this Y20 Post Summit, to open horizons and trigger the rise of various progressive ideas for Indonesia, especially by collaborating with several other youths in various regions who have their own problem backgrounds". Furthermore, Anhar wrote in his post on 29/10/22 that “Such an honor to be participated as the youth representative, reflecting the idea through collaboration and engagement. To be an Indonesian, brave and tough –challenging the global issues, pursue the local wisdom”.
