English and Literature Department held the Workshop of Academic Writing with the theme ''Your Language, Your identity

Gowa, BSI News — In order to optimize students' abilities in academic writing, the English and Literature Study Program at UIN Alauddin Makassar has successfully held an academic writing workshop with the theme Your Language, Your Identity. This activity was carried out on a national scale with a guest lecturer from UIN Maulana Malik Ibrahim Malang, Dr. Agwin Degaf, S.S., M.A., as head of the Department of English and Literature Department, and Dr. Hj. Galuh Nur Rohmah, M.Pd., M.Ed as secretary.

This activity was held in the Lecturer Theater room of the Faculty of Adab and Humanities, on 28 November 2022, by inviting the Dean of the Faculty to officially open the event.

As a guest speaker, Dr. Agwin Degaf, S.S., M.A. delivered workshop material entitled Critical Discourse Analysis as part of Linguistics. Meanwhile Dr. Hj. Galuh Nur Rohmah, M.Pd., M.Ed. delivering Building Academic writing material. According to both of them, this materials were the initial foundation that students need to strengthen before starting academic writing.

This workshop was also attended by 2 speakers from the lecturers of English and Literature at UIN Alauddin Makassar. Dr. Sardian Maharani Asnur, S.Pd., M.Pd. who delivered the Writing Composition material and Dr. Umar Thamrin, M.Hum. who convey tips on getting interesting topic issues to discuss.

The excitement of this workshop was not only felt by BSI UIN Alauddin Makassar students but also students from other universities because this workshop was held open to general students, especially for students who will start or are in the process of writing a thesis as a graduation requirement.

"This activity is very useful and cool, especially when I can experience direct practice and the results of it is able to be commented by the speaker. In my opinion, having a practice session makes it easier for participants to understand compared to just hearing and taking notes on the theory,” said one of the participants who was met after the event.
