The Department of English Language and Literature (BSI) Adab and Humanities of Faculty (FAH) Alauddin State Islamic University Makassar held Community Service (PKM) at Bukit Hidayah Malino Islamic Boarding School, November 24-25, 2023.
The implementation of the Department PKM activity which coincided with National Teachers' Day was attended by a number of BSI UIN Alauddin Makassar lecturers.
"We are very happy and grateful to the lecturers (BSI FAH UIN Alauddin Makassar) for choosing our place as the location of PKM. Moreover, the arrival of the lecturers coincided with the 58th National Teachers' Day (HGN)." said the Head of Hidayah Islamic hill Boarding School, K.H. Abdul Hamid Sarro, BA when welcoming the PKM group of the BSI FAH UIN Alauddin Makassar Department, Saturday (25/11).
National Teachers' Day (HGN), which is commemorated every November 25, is a space of appreciation given to teachers for the spirit of learning, sharing, and collaborating in independent learning for the realization of safe, comfortable, and fun learning for students.
The theme of HGN 2023 commemoration is "Move Together, Celebrate Free Learning." With the implementation of this PKM, continued the former Principal of SMP Negeri 1 Malino, the spirit of learning fun, especially learning English, can be applied in Islamic boarding schools which are part of UIN Alauddin Makassar.
Bukit Hidayah Islamic Boarding School which was established on June 7, 2004 is campus IV UIN Alauddin Makassar. The establishment of this Islamic boarding school was initiated by the former Rector of IAIN/UIN Alauddin Makassar for the period 1985-1993 Prof. Dr. Hj. Andi Rasydiana.
According to Abdul Hamid, as a teacher Prof. Rasydiana at that time felt called to advance education for people living in the mountainous areas of Malino.
With his persistence, the former IAIN/UIN Tarbiyah Lecturer Alauddin Makassar and the former Director General of Islamic Bimas of the Ministry of Religious Affairs (Kemenag RI) established the Bukit Hidayah Islamic Boarding School which is located in Bulutana Village, Tinggimoncong District, Gowa Regency.
"Although this Boarding School is still lacking in facilities, it is rich in achievements that have been achieved by students at the national level. For the last two years, alumni of this Boarding School have passed into Gadjah Mada University Yogyakarta and even as many as seven students have succeeded in representing South Sulawesi at the national level for the Quran khatam competition." Hamid explained.
He hopes that PKM activities based on the spirit of sharing knowledge of learning English can continue to be sustainable.
Meanwhile, Secretary of the Department of BSI FAH UIN Alauddin Makassar Sandra Dewi Dahlan, S.Pd., M.A in front of around 50 MTs students and Aliyah Pesantren Bukit Hidayah Malino gave motivation about the importance of learning English.
He also gave an example of the benefits obtained by one of the BSI lecturers who during school diligently studied English.
"I want to introduce the one of our lecturers, Mrs. Waode Suryadarma, thanks to her perseverance in learning English when she was still in school like her younger siblings, she now often goes abroad to attend international scale events. So, from now on, if you want to study abroad and travel around the world, you must master English." he said.
PKM activities majoring in BSI were attended by BSI UIN Alauddin Makassar lecturers, among others, Dr. Hj. Nuri Emmiyati, M.Pd, Dr. Jumharia Djamereng, M.Hum, Syahruni Junaid, SS, M.Pd., Dr. Nahdhiyah, S.S., M.Pd, Dr. Sardian Maharani Asnur, S.Pd., M.Pd, Dr. Nasrum, S.Pd, M.A. Waode Suryadarma, S.S., M.Hum, Helmy Syukur, S.Pd.I, M.Pd, Dr. Muhammad Taufik, S.S., M.Hum and two department staff Narti, S.M and Saharuddin, S.Pd, M.Pd.I.
On this occasion, in addition to the process of providing Basic English material by the lecturers, a number of reference books were also handed over to the school library donated by the Head of the English Literature Study Program Dr. Rosmah Tami, S.Ag, M.Sc, M.A and a plaque was given to the Head of the Bukit Hidayah Malino Islamic Boarding School.
