Lecture Series IV : International Seminar Highlights the Globalization of Indonesian Literature Through Translation

May 19, 2025 – The Department of English Language and Literature, UIN Alauddin Makassar, successfully hosted Lecture Series IV: International Seminar titled “Menggaungkan Kesusastraan Indonesia di Panggung Dunia Melalui Penerjemahan.” on Monday, May 19, 2025, at the Faculty of Adab and Humanities.

The seminar featured distinguished speakers:

  • Dr. Umar Tamrin, S.Ag., M.Hum., lecturer at UIN Alauddin Makassar,

  • Lian Gouw, American author and founder of Dalang Publishing, and

  • Putri Sri Ardianti, a student of English Language and Literature and a young author affiliated with Dalang Publishing.

The event was moderated by Waode Surya Darmadali, S.S., M.Hum., also a lecturer at the university.

In the seminar, the speakers emphasized the role of translation in expanding the reach of Indonesian literature and fostering cross-cultural dialogue. Lian Gouw shared insights into her work with Dalang Publishing, which has been dedicated to translating Indonesian literary works into English. Putri Sri Ardianti, as a student and published writer, offered an inspiring perspective on how young authors can contribute to this mission. Dr. Umar Tamrin explored the significance of translation from an academic standpoint, linking language to cultural identity and global presence.

“Jaga bahasa Indonesia, lestarikan bahasa lokal, dan kuasai bahasa asing.”
