November 18th 2021 at Mokula cafe, Romang Polong, Gowa Regency
English and Literature Department, Adab and Humanities Faculty, UIN Alauddin Makassar, conducted National
English Competition in the effort to improve the student's achievement . Due to
pandemic, this program was conducted in virtual event and joined by some
colleges from South Sulawesi and other regencies. Before selecting the
participant for the final step, the committee selected the scripts sent by all
participants. There were some juries who were participated in this event; such
as; Ida Rosyida, M.Hum ( UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta), Dr. Nasrum, S.Pd.,
M.Pd and Dr. Sardian Maharani, S.Pd., M.Pd. (UIN Alauddin Makassar), Andi
batara Al Isra (Lingkar Pena Forum, South Sulawesi Regency), Rashu Jain ( Univ.
Of Texas, Aystin), Dian Mukhlisa, S.Pd, MA. ( UIN Sulthan Saifuddin Jambi).
The competition
intended to give students opportunity to develop creativity and English skill.
There were 2 kinds of competition performed, namely Story Telling and English
Speech. Jumharia Djamereng as the head of English and Literature Department
said that this event would annually performed in order to encourage students
improving their English skills. The participants were enthusiastic as they were
from some universities; Mega Rezky university, State Islamic Institute (IAIN)
Palopo, Indonesia Parahikmah Institute,
Makassar State University, UIN Sunan Ampel Surabaya, Telkom University, Sekolah
Tinggi bahasa Asing Pontianak, Brawijaya Univ, etc.
This competition
decided the 1st winner in Story telling was Muhfaizat from Indonesia
Parahikmah Institute and Ananda Rahayu from Diponegoro University was the 1st
winner in Speech contest. Thus, Ahmad, SS., M.Lit. as the head of committee
said that a reward actually is not primary purpose, but moreover its aim is to
encourage students to learn and improve English skills.”
