The English and Literature Department of Adab and Humanities Faculty, UIN Alauddin Makassar as the member of LITA (Literature and Linguistics Association) in collaboration with UIN Sulthan Thaha Saifuddin Jambi conducted monthly LITA seminar by arraning the theme “Gender Issues in Linguistics Literature Studies” on Thursday, 19th January 2023 on the Zoom Meeting platform. This seminar invited two speakers, they were Dr. Karmila Mokoginta, S.S., M.Hum., M.Arts., the lecturer of Faculty Cultural Sciences Hasanuddin University with the issue “Gender-related Issues in English and Bahasa Indonesia School Textbooks”, and the second speaker was Tira Mariana, M.Hum., who is the lecturer of UIN Sulthan Thaha Saifuddin Jambi who presented the topic “Potret Keberagaman Gender and Seksualitas dalam Karya Sastra”. The seminar were participated by100 participants both lecturers and students, joined the seminar enthusiastically. It was moderated by Sandra Dewi Dahlan, S.Pd., M.A., the English and Literature lecturer at UIN Alauddin Makassar.
The first session of the Academic Forum was opened by the President of LITA, Dr. Meinarni Susilowati, M.Ed. and was continued by the first speaker, Dr. Karmila Mokoginta, S.S., M.Hum., M.Arts. her presentation figured out some words that were found in some textbooks using the school contained gender issues, and she also found that man still dominant mentioned in some reading materials in Indonesian and English text books in the schools. In addition, man always were related to sports and power, while women always related to house works and taking care of children. Thus, the next speaker, Tira Mariana, M.Hum discussed LGBTQ that portrayed in some literary works both in Indonesia and English novels. It was raised many responses from the participants who were interested in this issues in which it becomes the odd issues in most Islamic countries specially in Indonesia.
