Makassar, November 3, 2025 — The English Language and Literature Study Program (BSI) of the Faculty of Adab and Humanities, UIN Alauddin Makassar, carried out a community service activity at Arnadya Special School (SLB) in Makassar. The activity, themed “Children Literature: Let’s Play and Learn English in a Fun Way!”, aimed to provide inclusive and enjoyable English education for children with special needs.

In this program, students enrolled in the Children Literature course took part directly in teaching at the school. They applied the concept of children’s literature learning adapted to the abilities and characteristics of the SLB students. The approach was designed to be interactive and child-friendly through games, drawing activities, and simple English storytelling.

This method proved effective in increasing the children’s enthusiasm for learning. They appeared cheerful and actively participated in every session. The students also gained valuable experience in applying theories of children’s literature learning in real settings, while strengthening empathy and understanding toward inclusive education needs.

One of the lecturers of the Children Literature course, who also accompanied the activity, stated that this program represents a concrete implementation of experiential learning. “Through this activity, students not only learn about children’s literature theories but also develop pedagogical skills and creativity in teaching children with special needs,” she explained.

The community service activity was warmly welcomed by the school. The principal of Arnadya Special School expressed appreciation for the initiative and attention shown by the BSI students of UIN Alauddin Makassar toward the education of children with special needs. He expressed hope that such collaborations would continue in the future as a tangible contribution of higher education institutions to supporting inclusive education in Indonesia.
