Character Building Training (CBT) Batch II Conducted for First-Year Students at UIN Alauddin Makassar in 2026

Makassar, Indonesia — A Character Building Training (CBT) program for first-year students of Universitas Islam Negeri Alauddin Makassar was successfully held on 17–18 April 2026 at the Ma’had Al-Jamiah Building of the university. The activity aimed to strengthen students’ personal character, discipline, and academic readiness as they begin their higher education journey. The program also serves as a compulsory requirement for students to complete their undergraduate (Sarjana) degree.

The program was officially opened by Prof. Dr. H. Syahruddin Usman, Head of the Ma’had Al- Jamiah of UIN Alauddin Makassar. In his opening remarks, he emphasized the importance of character formation as a foundational aspect of academic success. He highlighted that the objective of the program is not only to develop good character among students but also to cultivate awareness of religious moderation as an essential value in contemporary society.

A total of 400 students from the 2025 cohort participated in the training. The participants represented several faculties, including the Faculty of Science and Technology, the Faculty of Ushuluddin and Philosophy, and the Faculty of Tarbiyah and Teacher Training. The diversity of participants reflected the university’s commitment to fostering inclusive and holistic student development across disciplines.

The training sessions were guided by lecturers from the respective faculties, who served as mentors throughout the program. The materials delivered in the training focused on five core dimensions of character development: the relationship between the self and God, the relationship with parents, the relationship with the environment, the relationship with oneself, and the relationship with others. These themes were explored through structured activities, reflective discussions, and interactive sessions designed to enhance students’ self-awareness, ethical conduct, and social responsibility.

The CBT program is part of the university’s ongoing initiative to prepare students not only academically but also personally and socially. By integrating character education and religious moderation into the early stages of university life, the institution aims to produce graduates who are not only knowledgeable but also possess integrity, tolerance, and professionalism.
