English and Literature Department Holds Mental Health Talk Show on Self-Awareness and Personal Growth

Makassar, 27 April 2026 — The English Language and Literature Department at Universitas Islam Negeri Alauddin Makassar organized a talk show focusing on self-awareness and mental well-being on Monday, 27 April 2026, at the Lecture Theater (LT) of the Faculty of Adab and Humanities. The program began at 9:30 a.m. and continued until completion, attracting enthusiastic participation from students.

The event was officially opened by Dr. Rosmah Tami, Head of the English Language and Literature Department. In her welcoming speech, she emphasized the importance of mental and emotional awareness among university students, particularly in facing academic pressures and social challenges in modern life.

The session featured Diah Purwita Rini, S.Psi., M.Psi., Psikolog, as the main speaker. During the talk show, she discussed various issues related to self-awareness, hidden emotions, identity, overthinking, self-worth, and the personal journey of understanding oneself honestly. Through an interactive and reflective approach, participants were encouraged to recognize emotions and internal struggles that are often ignored or concealed.

The event was hosted by Tiara Ramadani, Sophia Smaragdina, and Aisoh, who are fourth-semester students of the English Literature Department. Their active involvement contributed to the engaging and interactive atmosphere throughout the program. Aisoh’s participation as an international student from Thailand also reflected the department’s multicultural academic environment.

The program aimed to help students gain a deeper understanding of themselves and become more aware of the emotions, thoughts, and personal challenges they experience. The session also encouraged participants to develop self-acceptance and healthier perspectives toward personal growth and emotional well-being.

In addition, the talk show created a supportive space for students to reflect on their life experiences and realize that they are not alone in facing uncertainty, pressure, or emotional difficulties. By participating in the activity, students were expected to build a healthier mindset and strengthen both their personal and social resilience.

The event reflects the department’s commitment not only to academic excellence but also to supporting students’ psychological well-being and holistic personal development.
