GOWA – The Department of English Language and Literature (BSI) at the Faculty of Adab and Humaniora (FAH), UIN Alauddin Makassar, reached a significant milestone as it celebrated its 27th anniversary on Monday, May 5, 2025. The event, captured in image.png, was marked by a blend of formal reflection and social action, emphasizing the department’s growth and its commitment to the surrounding community.
The proceedings began with an opening address from the Head of the Department, Dr. Rosmah Tami, S.Ag., M.Sc., M.A., who reflected on the nearly three decades of the department's journey. She emphasized that the 27th anniversary is a time to strengthen synergy and innovation in teaching and research. The ceremony, also attended by Department Secretary Sandra Dewi Dahlan, S.Pd., M.A., featured a Quran recitation by A. Nahla, a member of the HMJ.
A Journey Toward Excellence
Following the opening, the Dean of the Faculty of Adab and Humaniora, Prof. Dr. H. Barsihannor, M.Ag., delivered his remarks. He highlighted the rich history of the department since its establishment in 1999. He reflected on the long journey and the "perjuangan" (struggle) involved in securing accreditation, which culminated in the program achieving an "Unggul" (Excellent) status this year.
Looking toward the future, the Dean shared his vision for the program and delivered a specific message to the English and Literature Department Student Association (HMJ). He emphasized that the HMJ should serve as a source of motivation for their peers, ensuring that all student activities are strategically designed to support them in building their future careers.
The event was further honored by the presence of the Vice Dean for Academic Affairs, Prof. Muhammad Yusuf, M.Pd.I and Prof. Dr. H. Mardan, M.Ag., along with various lecturers and staff members. Following the Dean's remarks, the celebration continued with the traditional cutting of the tumpeng (yellow rice cone) to symbolize gratitude for the department's past achievements and shared success.
Service Beyond the Classroom
Extending the celebration beyond the campus walls, the HMJ BSI spearheaded a meaningful charity initiative. Following the formal ceremony, student representatives, led by Fakhrul Ahmad as the HMJ chair, distributed food packages to residents living in the vicinity of the campus.
This charity event was designed to share the joy of the anniversary with the local community, reinforcing the department's dedication to social responsibility. The active involvement of the HMJ members demonstrated the strong spirit of collaboration and empathy that the department seeks to instill in its students.
The 27th-anniversary celebration of BSI FAH UIN Alauddin Makassar successfully combined academic tradition with humanitarian action, marking another year of excellence and community integration for the department.
